Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of permanent vision loss in people over age 60 worldwide. The primary focus of my current research is on the development of small organic molecules and molecular self- assemblies to control the aggregation of pigments from the retina associated with AMD. The effect of compounds on retinal pigment aggregation is investigated using dynamic light scattering (DLS) and a combination of ultraviolet-visible and fluorescence spectroscopy techniques.
